CGP Ep299 Ying Yang of Performance & Life

#glisteners coach glass podcast Jul 24, 2019

The Ying Yang symbol that you see on any martial arts studio logo, tattoos from the ’80s and on surfboards and skateboards made by T&C is a perfect metaphor for life.

The ebb and flow of the positive and negative, feminine and masculine, order and chaos, the light and the dark.

It represents balance.

The Yang is the white side of the image and the Ying is the black side. The white Yang side represents positivity, masculinity and light.  The black Ying side represents the negative, feminine and darkness.

Ladies! Don't get mad at me for putting you in the dark, negative side that represents chaos.  I didn’t come up with this.

The Ying Yang is an ancient Chinese Taoist symbol from thousands of years ago!

When I practice yoga I perform a 1 hour Yang Ying routine.  I start with 30 minutes of masculine, strenuous holds for a set number of breaths then transition into 30 minutes of passive feminine stretches.

Once you complete the Yang portion you are dying to lay down in the pool of sweat you have created beneath you and release all the tension you built up.

If you did the passive stretches without the strenuous holds they would have no meaning.

The masculine holds followed by weight lifting and wind sprints would leave me unbalanced for the rest of the day. You need the Yang with the Ying!
